You could focus on the inspiring leadership of Moses or the hardheartedness of Pharaoh or even the masculine image of God as Ish Milhama, Man of War. Yet, the rabbis in the Talmud maintain that Israel was redeemed from slavery in Egypt precisely because of women. Who were these women and what can we learn from their leadership, courage, and ingenuity? How might we better understand this foundational story of our identity differently when we examine the unique and powerful role of our female ancestors and the Divine Feminine in midwifing the Israelites to freedom.
