Justice in Action: Secular Education and the Ultra-Orthodox and Chassidic Communities

Thousands of Jewish children attending Ultra-Orthodox and Chassidic yeshivas are being denied a basic education. This fact has now been confirmed by the findings in the New York City Department of Education’s report on their lengthy yeshiva investigation that was routinely stalled due to politics.

Please join JCC Social Justice Activist in Residence Ruth Messinger for a discussion on this important topic and the current efforts to bring about the changes necessary to ensure a basic education for all children in our city. She will be joined by Yaffed’s founder and executive director, Naftuli Moster, who is a yeshiva graduate himself; Beatrice Weber, whose son attends a Chassidic yeshiva; and Jamie Hooper, a private school teacher and parent.
