Join us in the next feature of the Micki Levin Concert Series for a dynamic exploration through the music of Bob Dylan—songs that defined a generation and reflect his own spiritual journey. Inspired by Rabbi Aubrey Glazer’s recent book about the great American songwriter, we will hear Dylan’s well-known (and lesser-known) songs, experiencing how they continue to challenge and inspire.

Narrated by Rabbi Glazer and musically produced by BJ Music Director Dan Nadel, this concert will feature vocalists Vanisha Gould and Gene Taylor, pianist Mathis Picard, bassist Noriko Ueda, and drummer Yuval Lion.

Join us in-person or gain access to this concert’s exclusive livestream.

Vanisha Gould (Vocals) came to New York in 2015 from Simi Valley, California. Inspired by artists like Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Joni Mitchell, Carmen McRae and Ella Fitzgerald – Vanisha has successfully curated her own sound as a composer and band leader. Performing originals and music from the Great American Songbook on several groundbreaking stages both in New York and overseas, she aspires to continue sharing her voice with audiences in New York and beyond.

Yuval Lion (Drums) was born in Tel Aviv and is now a New York based drummer. Lion has worked with some of the world’s most distinguished rock, pop, r&b and jazz artists including Chrissie Hynde, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, Meshell Ndgeocello, Martha and Rufus Wainwright, Lionel Loueke and most recently with David Byrne, Suzanne Vega and Duncan Sheik. In addition to worldwide tours Lion maintains a high profile in New York City’s live and studio scene.

Dan Nadel (Music Direction and Concert Production, Guitar) is an Israeli-born, New York-based guitarist and composer, whose personal style combines flamenco, jazz, and Middle Eastern influences. He is a bandleader, a solo performing artist, and a collaborator with Tavche Gravche–a multinational neo-Balkan group. A busy musician on the New York scene, Nadel has also worked with many world-renowned artists, including jazz artists Chico Freeman and Dave Liebman, Israeli-French pop star Yael Naim, jazz vocalist Gabrielle Stravelli, and opera singer Maya Lahyani. Nadel is a graduate of the BFA jazz program at The New School. Dan has been B’nai Jeshurun’s Music Director since 2017.

Mathis Picard (Piano, Keyboards) is a French – Malagasy Pianist & Composer, deemed as “one to watch” by Jazzwize magazine. As a solo pianist, Mathis has played sets for NY Fashion Week, Little Island, Umbria Jazz Festival, and is featured on several records. His solo release “Live At The Museum” was released to critical acclaim in January 2022. As a bandleader, Mathis’ large ensemble “The Sound Orchestra” has performed on both coasts of America. Their debut genre-bending EP “World Unity” came out in 2020 on Outside In Music Records which put him on the map as “a fascinating name to follow in any context” (All About Jazz). Artists that Mathis has worked with include Mwenso & The Shakes, Braxton Cook, Ron Carter, Lillias White, Lee Ritenour, Kindness, Wynton Marsalis, Veronica Swift, and Etienne Charles.

Gene Taylor (Vocals) is a singer, songwriter, actor and multi-instrumentalist. He moved from New Jersey to NYC in 2015 after the completion of the Man of La Mancha national tour. He’s performed for Carnival Cruise lines and currently sings and plays for various clubs and private events such as Cafe Wha, The Atlantic Club, Haswell Green and Total Entertainment. At the moment he has a handful of singles out and is currently wrapping up the debut album of his band Alice Valentine.

Noriko Ueda (Bass) is originally from Hyogo, Japan. After graduating from Berklee College of Music she relocated to NYC. In 2002, she was the winner of the Charlie Parker Jazz composition Prize for her original big band piece. She has played sold out shows at Carnegie Hall with ARTEMIS, led by Renee Rosnes, and her bands “Noriko Ueda Jazz Orchestra” and “Noriko Ueda Trio” quartet have both performed at Blue Note New York. Her leader trio album “Debut” was released from Terashima Records in 2015. Noriko has toured with the Ted Rosenthal Trio 13 times, and their CD “Out of this World” reached #1 on the national jazz radio charts. She also has performed and toured with various legendary musicians including Frank Wess,  Kenny Barron, Grady Tate, Nancy Wilson, Makoto Ozone and Terumasa Hino.
