A Fraught Conversation

In this volatile political environment, Jewish power and vulnerability are center stage. Conversations about the women’s march, Israeli politics, and policy expose the complexity of the Jewish community and the role it plays in the project of American democracy. At times, these issues get in the way of effective alliances between Jewish groups and other marginalized communities, limiting our ability to partner in the fight against bigotry and injustice in this country.

Our panelists will explore the ways in which racism, antisemitism, and other forms of hatred play out in the political landscape, and share their perspectives on what needs to be done to create more effective partnerships across lines of race, class, and faith.

Panelists

  • Julie Fernandes, associate director at Rockefeller Family Fund and former advocacy director at the Open Society Foundations
  • Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO of ADL (Anti-Defamation League) and served in the White House as special assistant to President Obama and director of the Office of Social Innovation
  • Dan Shapiro, former US Ambassador to Israel
  • Tarso Ramos, Executive Director at Political Research Associates

Moderated by Jodi Rudoren, editor in chief of The Forward
