Event Details:

Each month from December through June, we will read and discuss a book that is related to BJ’s “Race and Us” initiative from the perspective of the land of Israel. In addition to novels, we also dip into some short stories and a graphic novel.

We will create an arc of related themes to dissect over the course of the year, but you are welcome to join us for one or all sessions.

This month, we will read Shemi Zarhin’s Some Day.

Registration is essential—registration closes 5:00PM the day before.

This gripping saga from Israeli film director and producer Shemi Zarhin has been described as a “rich stew fueled by food and sex.” Ostensibly about an outwardly average Israeli family from the seaside city of Tiberias and set between the Six-Day and Yom Kippur Wars, the story is touched with interludes of fantasy—and then an unexpected blast launches it into reality. Recipes are interwoven throughout the novel.
