High Holy Days 5782

Updated: June 23, 2022

We’re so grateful for the success of last year’s extremely COVID-19-safe, yet deeply meaningful, High Holy Days experience, that brought everyone together in a completely new way. We expect to offer members in good standing in-person High Holy Days services this year in three locations—the BJ Sanctuary and Community House, Jazz at Lincoln Center, and at the Church of St. Paul and St. Andrew for families.

In addition to our virtual offering, we will also return to offering reciprocal entrance cards. Though we anticipate having room for non-member guests, that won’t be confirmed until late August.

Three other things to know:

  • We do not expect to offer outdoor services.

  • We will use the same online registration system as last year for print-at-home entrance cards. Registration will begin August 15.

  • The earlier you renew or join as members, the earlier you’ll get to register for High Holy Day services.

Join or renew before June 30 to be a part of the first group to select preferred service locations.

Yamim Nora’im At-a-Glance

Rosh Hashanah: Sunday, September 25 – Tuesday, September 27

Yom Kippur: Tuesday, October 4 – Wednesday, October 5

We will continue streaming our services for those who prefer to join us virtually. Registration will be required.

What is BJ’s vaccination policy?

We anticipate that anyone attending indoor services must be fully vaccinated as per CDC guidelines by the time of the service. This will be confirmed by Labor Day.

Please consult the CDC website for vaccine eligibility, guidelines, and resources.

We will pre-verify vaccinations to allow for more streamlined entry. You may upload your proof of vaccination as part of the registration process.

You will have the option of using your phone or print-at-home documents as part of your arrival process. We will remind you of this in the final pre-holiday communications.

I am not a member. Can I attend High Holy Days services at BJ?

Seating at our High Holy Days services is limited; therefore entrance cards are generally issued only to members. We may have capacity for personal guests of members, in which case we may open up seating to non-members. This will be determined in early September. We encourage you to become a member to ensure access to High Holy Days services in person. With our sliding-scale dues, this option is affordable to all.

Our High Holy Days and Shabbat livestreams are always available to the public at no cost.

How many High Holy Days entrance cards do I get with my membership?

Those with individual memberships receive one entrance card. Those with family memberships receive two adult entrance cards and youth cards for any members of the household 26 years of age and younger.

We will again be utilizing the conference-style online registration system we used last year, based on tremendous success and feedback from members. The system allows members to select the individual services they wish to join (subject to availability) for themselves and each member of their household. Upon arrival, members will present a print-at-home QR code for access to services, so there will be no entrance card mailing this year.

What does it mean to be a member in good standing?

To be a member in good standing, your account balance should be paid in full or on a payment plan. If your intent is to send in a check, stock/wire transfer, or a contribution from a donor advised fund, please be in touch with the membership department about the timing of your payment. Read more information about the good standing policy.

Will you need ushers and greeters?

Yes, we will have a need for ushers and greeters, perhaps more than ever. If you want to help create a warm communal energy at our services by serving in this volunteer role, please fill out this form to indicate your interest. We will be in touch later in the summer when service locations have been confirmed and exact shifts are determined. PLEASE NOTE: This form is for indicating usher/greeter interest only, not membership renewal or indicating location preferences.

Will virtual services have a Zoom option or only stream via YouTube, Facebook, or the BJ website?

All services from the BJ Sanctuary, as well as Family and Children’s services will be streamed. We will not have a member-only Zoom option this year.
