“Here Comes The Spiel” Auditions & Rehearsals

Calling all actors—experienced and aspiring! It’s time for the BJ Theater Company’s annual Purim Spiel. Each year, we produce a splashy, spectacular Spiel with a fun-filled theme. This year’s show is Here Comes the Spiel! This groovy, hippies-meet-Haman twist on the Megillah is open to kindergarteners through 9th-graders, and no previous theater experience is necessary. Every child who registers will get a role in the show, which is a nurturing, enriching experience for performers at all levels.

Rehearsals will be held in person on Sundays (1:00-2:00 PM for K–grade 1; between 1:30-4:00 PM for grades 2–9) starting February 4 and culminating in performances on March 23 and March 24. More details of the rehearsal schedule are below.

Please note: This is a condensed rehearsal process, so attendance is important. If you have scheduling concerns, please email Emma at More interested in helping out behind the scenes? Email Emma!

Everyone who is interested in participating in the show will be cast, but auditions are required to help us get to know each actor and think about the right role for them. Please use this form to register, and then send a video of your child singing a segment (about a fourth of a song is fine!) of a song. Please submit videos by January 31 and email them to Happy Birthday, the ABCs, and Twinkle, Twinkle always work just fine!

Rehearsals are mainly 1:00-2:00 PM for K–grade 1 & 1:30-4:00 PM for grades 2–9. When we get closer to the performance, rehearsals will be 1:00-4:00 PM for all participants. The rehearsal schedule is as follows, though additional rehearsals for particular roles may be scheduled with families as needed.

  • Sunday 2/4
  • Sunday 2/11
  • Sunday 2/18
  • Sunday 2/25
  • Tuesday 2/27 *will be held after Kadima
  • Thursday 2/29
  • Sunday 3/3
  • Sunday 3/10

There will be additional rehearsals (exact timing TBD) on March 18, 19, and 20 as we get closer to Purim. We may also schedule additional occasional weekday rehearsals (we will work with families to schedule) to make up for Presidents Week.

Performances are March 23 and 24.
