Yom Hashoah Commemoration and Film Screening: Etty Hillesum: Search for a Writer in Wartime
Join us for a powerful commemoration of Yom Hashoah, as we come together for prayer and ritual, and read from BJ’s Shoah Megillah, which holds the names of family members of the BJ community who perished in the Holocaust.
This year’s commemoration will also feature a screening of the film Etty Hillesum: Search for a Writer in Wartime. The 52-minute documentary tells the story of the Dutch woman who became known in the early eighties after the posthumous publication of her war diaries, titled An Interrupted Life. The book soon got translated into many languages, and her literary legacy shows that, if she hadn’t been killed in the nazi death camp Auschwitz, she would have become a famous Dutch writer. This documentary sheds light on the person behind the author, revealing new details about her life and legacy.
Please note that the livestream for this gathering will continue only until the start of the film screening, which can only be experienced in person.
