Volunteer Training to Support Afghan Families
In collaboration with Good Counsel Services Inc., join a training session on filing Humanitarian Parole applications for Afghan nationals and their families. Open to lawyers, law students, and anyone interested in volunteering (no legal experience needed), the training will cover the contents of an application, how to evaluate whether individuals are eligible for Humanitarian Parole, the filing of petitions and other necessary documents. After the training, you will be able to volunteer your time with Good Counsel to support Afghan families who need legal support.
Background
Good Counsel Services is a non-profit organization based in New York City providing legal services to a wide variety of clients. Although the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan has ended, hundreds of individuals in Afghanistan still are at risk of persecution under the Taliban government and wish to flee. Since August 2021, Good Counsel Services has been assisting vulnerable Afghan nationals and their families by filing Humanitarian Parole applications on their behalf, which, if approved, would allow them to come to the United States temporarily.
We Need Your Help
Good Counsel Services continues to receive requests from Afghan families who are in danger and want to file for Humanitarian Parole. However, the organization doesn’t have the capacity to process these cases on their own. Their Legal Team is currently soliciting attorneys and other legal professionals, law students, and volunteers (no legal experience required) to help process Humanitarian Parole requests, gather documentation, and file Humanitarian Parole applications on behalf of Afghan families.
